    Why can steel pipe bundles shift even when they are strapped down?

    Strapping a pipe bundle helps keep the pipes together, but it does not automatically prevent the entire load from shifting during transportation. Several factors can affect bundle stability, including pipe diameter, bundle weight, bundle dimensions, pipe arrangement, support points, friction, dunnage, tiedown position, and vehicle configuration. Because pipes have a round surface, individual pipes can also move relative to each other when the load is subjected to braking, acceleration, cornering, or road vibration. This is why there is no universal answer such as “four straps are enough.” The appropriate securement arrangement depends on the actual bundle and transportation conditions. For ZAM pipes, securement also needs to be compatible with the required surface and coating condition. Avoiding unnecessary sliding, impact, and abrasion during loading and transportation can help reduce the risk of product or coating damage. A pipe bundle is not automatically a fully secured load simply because it has been strapped.

    What happens to ZAM coating when steel is cut or welded?

    Cutting and welding affect a ZAM coating in different ways. When ZAM steel is cut, a new edge is created. The edge condition is therefore different from the original coated surface. The performance of the cut edge depends on the coating system, steel thickness, cutting process, surrounding environment, and application. Welding introduces localized heat, which can alter or remove coating around the weld area. The affected zone should therefore be considered when the finished component requires long-term corrosion protection. This does not mean ZAM steel cannot be cut or welded. It means that fabrication and coating performance need to be considered together. For outdoor or corrosive environments, buyers should consider the fabrication method and required corrosion performance when specifying ZAM products. Where necessary, appropriate treatment of cut or welded areas can be included in the fabrication procedure.

    It may seem strange to transport a round steel coil in an orientation where rolling appears possible. However, coil orientation is not selected based on shape alone. The loading arrangement can depend on the coil's weight and dimensions, available lifting equipment, trailer configuration, loading and unloading facilities, handling method, and applicable transportation requirements. Some orientations may make handling equipment easier to use or allow the coil to be loaded and unloaded more efficiently. Once the orientation is selected, the coil needs to be adequately supported and restrained for transportation. So the real question is not simply “Why not lay the coil flat?” It is whether the selected orientation, support, and securement arrangement are appropriate for the particular load. ZAM coils have the same basic transportation considerations as other steel coils. The Zn-Al-Mg coating does not determine the coil's loading orientation.

    Can ZAM steel be welded?

    Yes. ZAM-coated steel can be welded using suitable welding processes and parameters. However, welding ZAM steel requires consideration of both the steel substrate and the Zn-Al-Mg coating. The heat generated during welding can locally affect the coating around the weld area. The extent of this effect depends on the welding process, heat input, joint design, material thickness, and other fabrication conditions. For applications where corrosion performance around the welded area is important, the affected area may require appropriate post-weld treatment or protection. Welding procedures should also consider ventilation and other workplace safety requirements associated with welding coated steel. So, the answer is not simply “yes” or “no.” ZAM steel can be welded, but the welding process should be selected with the coating in mind. If you are purchasing ZAM steel for fabrication, it is useful to tell the supplier whether the material will be welded, formed, cut, or otherwise processed.

    Steel coils are heavy, round loads, and straps or chains are only one part of the securement system. A coil can still shift if the loading arrangement does not adequately control movement during braking, acceleration, cornering, or uneven road conditions. The stability of a coil can be affected by its weight, diameter, width, loading orientation, support, friction, tiedown capacity and placement, and vehicle configuration. The condition of the packaging and contact surfaces can also matter. This is why “How many straps are used?” is not the only question. The complete loading and securement arrangement needs to be appropriate for the specific coil and transportation conditions. For ZAM steel coils, the same basic transportation principles apply. The ZAM coating provides corrosion protection, but it does not change the physical characteristics of a heavy steel coil.

    A: Selection depends directly on the structural stress profile, environmental conditions, and budget requirements of the application:

    1.Choose Cold-Formed (EN 10219) When:

    Priority: Cost efficiency, tight dimensional tolerances, and excellent surface finish.

    Best Applications: General building frames, static architectural steelwork, residential/commercial column grids, secondary structural supports, and standard agricultural framing.

    Key Advantage: High strength-to-weight ratio produced at lower manufacturing energy costs.

    2.Choose Hot-Finished / Normalized (EN 10210) When:

    Priority: Controlling internal residual manufacturing stress, avoiding corner embrittlement, and guaranteeing uniform mechanical ductility throughout the section profile.

    Best Applications: Dynamic loading structures, heavy bridge girders, crane booms, offshore jackets/piling, structural nodes subjected to severe low-temperature fatigue, or structures requiring certified fire-resistance performance.

    Key Advantage: Complete stress relief enables post-weld heat treatment, hot-dip galvanizing without micro-cracking risk, and enhanced structural safety under cyclic impact.

    Decision Rule: Let the structural design engineer, loading conditions (static vs dynamic), and regional specifying standards govern the choice—EN 10219 for economical static structures; EN 10210 for heavy, high-consequence dynamic engineering.

  • Q How should buyers verify a supplier before placing a large volume order?

    A: Marketing brochures and paid platform badges are starting points, not proof of actual manufacturing capacity. For substantial orders, we recommend a strict four-step verification process:

    1.Verify Official Business Records: Pull the supplier’s official business registration from national public databases. Crucially, match the registered legal corporate name—character by character—against the beneficiary bank account receiving your deposit.

    2.Inspect Physical Production Samples: Evaluate physical samples for exact dimensional tolerances, mechanical properties, and surface finish before granting mass-production approval.

    3.Conduct On-Site or Live Factory Audits: Nothing beats walking the plant floor in person or conducting a live, real-time video walkthrough of active forming, welding, and packaging lines.

    4.Mandate Pre-Shipment Batch Testing: Some suppliers send flawless initial samples and then quietly ship a lower-grade bulk run. Always deploy independent third-party inspectors (such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, or TÜV) to test and verify the actual production batch at the facility prior to final dispatch.

  • Q What's the advantages of ZAM?

    A ZAM offers stronger corrosion resistance than conventional galvanized steel, especially at cut edges and in harsh environments. Its zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating forms a dense protective layer that slows rust formation and supports self-healing when the surface is damaged. At the same time, ZAM maintains good formability and surface durability, making it suitable for both structural and fabricated applications. Compared with stainless steel, it delivers similar corrosion performance in many uses at a more economical cost.
  • Q What is ZAM?

    A

    ZAM is a hot-dip coated steel made from a zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy and originally developed. It is essentially a steel sheet with a specialized metallic coating designed to improve corrosion resistance.

    The coating combines the strengths of each element. Aluminum provides barrier protection, magnesium supports self-healing at cut edges, and zinc adds durability and surface hardness. ZAM is produced in accordance with ASTM A1046/A1046M Type 1 requirements.

    Because of its performance and cost balance, ZAM is often viewed as a practical middle option between traditional galvanized steel and stainless steel.
